The Story of The EQ Factor
Bridging Deaf-Hearing Dynamics Through Emotional Intelligence
Collaboration between Deaf and hearing individuals has the potential to create dynamic, inclusive spaces where diverse perspectives enrich communication, decision-making, and innovation. However, these relationships are often shaped by deeply ingrained cultural differences, power imbalances, and communication barriers that, if left unaddressed, can lead to misunderstanding and frustration.
At The EQ Factor, we believe that fostering true partnership in Deaf-hearing interactions requires more than accessibility tools—it demands emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, and intentional relationship-building. Through structured learning, assessment-based development, and customized programs, we empower individuals and organizations to cultivate meaningful, equitable collaborations that go beyond functional communication and instead foster genuine connection.
Why This Work Matters
In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, emotional intelligence (EQ) is no longer just a “soft skill”—it’s a fundamental component of effective teamwork, leadership, and social belonging. Research has shown that emotionally intelligent teams perform better, navigate challenges more effectively, and sustain long-term collaboration. However, traditional models of emotional intelligence often fail to incorporate the unique cultural and linguistic experiences of Deaf individuals.
As a Coda (Child of Deaf Adults), ASL/English interpreter, and EQ coach with over 18 years of experience, I have spent my career bridging these gaps—both personally and professionally. My academic background in Interpreting Pedagogy, Business, and Psychology, combined with my work in interpreter education and emotional intelligence coaching, has given me a front-row seat to the challenges that arise in Deaf-hearing interactions. This initiative was born out of a need to address those challenges in a way that is both research-driven and deeply human.
A Call to Action: Let’s Build This Future Together
The future of Deaf-hearing collaboration is not just about accessibility—it’s about belonging. It’s about creating environments where both Deaf and hearing individuals are empowered to lead, contribute, and connect in ways that are authentic, equitable, and emotionally intelligent.
Through The EQ Factor, we are not just offering training; we are transforming the way Deaf and hearing people work, communicate, and grow together. We invite you to join us in this movement—because when we cultivate emotional intelligence and cultural fluency, we create spaces where everyone thrives.
